A group of rescued infant orangutans at an Odisha zoo have been observed exhibiting a spectrum of emotions, from calm to anxious to playful, highlighting their complex behavior.
A team of zookeepers at an Odisha zoo has reported that rescued baby orangutans are showing a range of emotions.
The infants, which were rescued from a smuggling ring, have been observed moving from relaxed states to moments of anxiety and then to playful interactions with each other and their caregivers.
Veterinary staff noted that the animals’ emotional displays are a sign of successful rehabilitation and adaptation to the zoo environment.
Experts say that such behavior indicates that the orangutans are developing healthy social bonds, a key factor for their long‑term well‑being in captivity.
