A red‑headed vulture was observed in the hill town of Munsiyari, Uttarakhand, as reported by GK Today.
GK Today reported that a red‑headed vulture was sighted in Munsiyari, a high‑altitude settlement in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. The bird was seen soaring over the forested slopes that surround the town, a region known for its rich biodiversity.
The appearance of this species is noteworthy because the red‑headed vulture is classified as critically endangered, with very few confirmed records in the Indian subcontinent. Conservationists monitor such sightings closely to assess the health of local ecosystems.
Local forest officials have been informed of the observation and are expected to document the incident further. The sighting adds to the growing list of wildlife records from the Himalayan belt, underscoring the area's importance for avian conservation.
No immediate threats to the bird were reported, and it was observed to be in normal flight condition before disappearing into the canopy.
The report highlights the need for continued habitat protection in Uttarakhand's remote mountain zones, where rare species like the red‑headed vulture still find refuge.
