A severe drought across 16 districts of Rajasthan has left more than 16,400 villages and 52 towns facing acute shortages of drinking water, animal fodder and livelihood opportunities. The state government is formulating a special relief package to address the crisis.

The monsoon failure this year has triggered a widespread drought in Rajasthan, now affecting sixteen districts. Officials estimate that more than 16,400 villages and 52 towns are grappling with a severe lack of potable water, animal fodder and regular employment opportunities, deepening an emerging humanitarian concern.

In response, the state government has announced the preparation of a special relief scheme aimed at mitigating the immediate hardships. While details are being finalised, the plan is expected to focus on emergency water supply, distribution of fodder for livestock and short‑term employment initiatives to support affected families.

Agricultural activity in the region has stalled as crops wither and grazing lands dry up, threatening the livelihoods of a largely agrarian population. Authorities have warned that without swift intervention, the situation could deteriorate further, prompting calls for coordinated action from both state agencies and central ministries.
