The monsoon in Rajasthan concluded three days later than expected, delivering 22% less rain than average and raising drought concerns in over 11 districts.

The southwest monsoon entered Rajasthan three days later than the usual onset, finally withdrawing after a brief spell of rain. Meteorological data show that the state received only about 78% of its typical monsoon rainfall, a shortfall of roughly 22% compared with long‑term averages.

The deficit has already manifested as dry conditions in more than eleven districts, where soil moisture levels are low and groundwater tables have begun to recede. Farmers in these areas are reporting stress on crops that rely on timely rains, and local authorities are monitoring water reservoirs closely.

State officials warned that the shortfall could exacerbate water scarcity during the upcoming summer months, potentially affecting drinking water supplies and irrigation. The department of irrigation has urged districts to implement water‑conservation measures and to prioritize critical needs as the state prepares for a hotter, drier season.

While the monsoon season is officially over, the government will continue to track rainfall patterns and may activate drought relief schemes if conditions worsen.
