The Punjab state cabinet gave its nod to proposed changes in the nursing regulations, aiming to strengthen the profession and improve healthcare delivery.
The cabinet meeting held in Chandigarh approved a set of amendments to the Punjab Nursing Rules. The changes were presented by the health department and received unanimous support from the ministers present.
Key provisions of the revised rules include stricter qualification standards for nursing candidates, mandatory continuing education programmes, and an updated registration and renewal process for practising nurses.
Officials said the amendments are intended to raise the overall quality of nursing care, address workforce shortages and bring the state’s regulatory framework in line with national guidelines.
The health ministry will now draft the detailed notification, which is expected to be published in the official Gazette within the next few weeks, after which the new provisions will become enforceable.
