A statewide bandh in Punjab has led to the closure of schools, banks and most markets, with only essential services remaining open.
A bandh was declared across Punjab today, prompting a near‑total shutdown of public and commercial activities. The protest, organized by local groups, has resulted in the closure of educational institutions, banking outlets and the majority of retail markets throughout the state.
All government and private schools in Punjab have been ordered to remain closed, and banks, including regional rural banks and private branches, are not serving customers. Major wholesale and retail markets in cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar have also shut their doors.
Essential services such as hospitals, police stations and a few grocery stores are operating on a limited basis. Public transport, including state-run buses, is running on a reduced schedule, and traffic police have been deployed to manage any disruptions.
State authorities have appealed for calm and urged citizens to avoid non‑essential travel, while assuring that emergency services will remain functional throughout the bandh.
