A batch of organically grown kiwis from Arunachal Pradesh has been sent to Dubai as part of a trial export, while growers push for a Geographical Indication tag to safeguard the fruit.

Arunachal Pradesh’s horticulture department has shipped a consignment of organically certified kiwis to Dubai, marking the state’s first trial export of the fruit. The shipment, prepared under strict organic standards, is intended to test market response and logistics for future commercial volumes.

Local growers, who have cultivated kiwis on the high‑altitude farms of the state for several years, are simultaneously seeking a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. A GI tag would legally recognize the unique terroir of Arunachal kiwis and provide protection against cheaper imports that could undercut local producers.

The trial export is being closely watched by state officials as a potential boost for the region’s agrarian economy. If successful, the Dubai market could open doors to other Gulf and international buyers, encouraging more farmers to adopt organic practices.

State agriculture minister has pledged support for the GI application and indicated that the government will facilitate further export missions, aiming to position Arunachal Pradesh as a niche supplier of high‑quality, pesticide‑free fruit.
