Police probing the Sagar liquor scandal found that only three of five crates of toxic alcohol were supplied while the rest were destroyed, raising fears of a possible death toll in the hundreds.

Sagar police investigations have uncovered that out of five crates of illicit, poisonous liquor seized during a recent raid, only three were successfully distributed to local vendors. The remaining two crates were reportedly destroyed before they could enter the market, preventing a wider public health disaster.

Authorities recovered large quantities of unlicensed spirit-making ingredients, including industrial alcohol and chemical additives, which are known to cause severe poisoning. The seized materials have been sent to forensic labs for detailed analysis.

Based on the potency of the confiscated liquor, officials warned that had all five crates reached consumers, the death toll could have risen into the hundreds. The police have arrested several individuals linked to the production and supply chain, and further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

The incident has prompted the state government to call for stricter monitoring of illicit liquor operations and to intensify public awareness campaigns about the dangers of consuming unlicensed alcohol.
