From 1 October 2026, Indian vehicles will no longer need to present a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate for registration or renewal, easing compliance for owners.

Starting 1 October 2026, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced that a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will no longer be mandatory for vehicle registration and renewal processes. The PUC certificate, which verified that a vehicle met emission standards, had been a routine requirement for years.

The decision aims to streamline administrative procedures and reduce paperwork for vehicle owners. While the certificate will be discontinued, authorities will continue to enforce emission norms through periodic inspections and other compliance mechanisms.

Transport officials say the move will save time for citizens and reduce the workload of regional transport offices. The change is part of a broader effort to simplify vehicle-related regulations across the country.
