A NGT report has highlighted serious shortcomings in the health system after a measles outbreak and deaths among Bhaga tribal children in Balaghat, with 25 of 64 samples testing positive for measles and 12 cases showing co‑infection with malaria.
The National Gynaecology and Transplantation (NGT) has released a report detailing critical gaps in the health infrastructure of Balaghat district following a recent measles outbreak among Bhaga tribal children.
The study examined 196 reported cases, of which 156 were children under the age of ten. Laboratory analysis of 64 samples revealed that 25 tested positive for measles, while 12 patients were found to have both measles and malaria.
NGT officials pointed out that the high prevalence of co‑infection indicates delayed diagnosis and inadequate treatment facilities in the region. The report calls for urgent strengthening of vaccination drives, improved diagnostic capacity, and better supply of essential medicines.
Health authorities in Madhya Pradesh have acknowledged the findings and pledged to review existing protocols to prevent future outbreaks.
