Scientists have identified Bupleurum oslaense as a new endangered plant species native to Uttarakhand, highlighting the region's rich biodiversity.

Scientists from the Uttarakhand Forest Department announced the discovery of Bupleurum oslaense, a previously unknown plant species now classified as endangered. The species was found in the high-altitude grasslands of the Garhwal Himalayas, an area known for its unique flora.

Bupleurum oslaense is a small, herbaceous plant that thrives in rocky slopes and alpine meadows. Its limited distribution and specialized habitat make it vulnerable to environmental changes.

The Forest Department has classified the plant as endangered under the IUCN Red List, citing habitat loss, grazing pressure, and climate change as major threats. Conservationists are calling for immediate protective measures.

In response, local authorities have begun mapping the plant’s range and are working with NGOs to develop a conservation action plan, including habitat restoration and community awareness programs.
