New Delhi activated the severe air quality alert GRAP III after the AQI spiked to 382, prompting vehicle and construction restrictions.
New Delhi has activated the Government Response Action Plan (GRAP) III, the highest level of air‑quality alert, after the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) surged to 382 at 4 pm on Friday.
The spike in AQI, a measure of particulate matter and other pollutants, indicates dangerously high levels of air pollution that pose serious health risks to residents.
Areas across the capital, especially Punjabi Bagh and the vicinity of the Delhi Technological University (DTU), are reporting severe air‑quality conditions. Residents in these zones have been advised to limit outdoor activities.
In response, authorities have imposed restrictions on private vehicles and halted construction activities in affected districts to curb further emissions. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has urged citizens to stay indoors and use air purifiers where possible.
