Delhi's air quality index has risen above 500, placing the city in a hazardous pollution zone. In response, authorities have enacted GRAP-III measures to curb emissions ahead of the Diwali celebrations.

Delhi’s air quality has deteriorated to a hazardous level, with the AQI exceeding 500, according to recent readings. The spike places the city in the most severe category of pollution, raising immediate health concerns for residents.

In response to the alarming readings, the government has implemented GRAP-III measures. These measures are designed to reduce industrial and vehicular emissions during the upcoming Diwali season, when fireworks and increased traffic typically worsen air quality.

The GRAP-III protocol includes stricter controls on factories, temporary shutdowns of high‑emission units, and restrictions on vehicular movement in key areas. The aim is to mitigate the impact of the festive season on Delhi’s already strained air quality.

Health officials have urged citizens to limit outdoor activities and wear protective masks, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

The authorities will monitor AQI levels closely and may tighten measures further if pollution remains above safe thresholds.
