Senior police officer Mrinal Deka has been appointed as the new Central DCP of Guwahati as part of a major reshuffle in the Assam Police.
Senior officer Mrinal Deka has been transferred to the post of Central Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Guwahati, marking a key move in the latest Assam Police reshuffle. The appointment was announced by the state police headquarters and is part of a broader reorganisation aimed at strengthening law‑enforcement capabilities across the region.
As Central DCP, Deka will oversee crime prevention, traffic management and coordination of police stations within the Guwahati metropolitan area. The role is critical for maintaining public order in Assam's largest city, which has seen a rise in both traffic congestion and urban crime in recent years.
Police officials indicated that the reshuffle, which involved several senior postings, is intended to improve operational efficiency and responsiveness. Deka's extensive experience in crime investigation and community policing is expected to contribute to these objectives, though no further details on his specific mandate were released at the time of the announcement.
