A sitting MP was revealed to have fabricated an IAS identity after a video recorded inside a Vidhan Sabha went viral, prompting authorities to investigate the fraud.
A video captured inside a state legislative assembly (Vidhan Sabha) has gone viral, showing a woman who is also a Member of Parliament presenting herself as an Indian Administrative Service officer. The clip, posted on social media, highlighted the woman using official‑looking documents and a government‑style ID to claim the IAS designation.
Investigators traced the footage to the MP, discovering that she had constructed a convincing fake identity by reproducing IAS credentials and circulating them among acquaintances. The scheme appeared designed to lend her political activities an aura of bureaucratic authority.
Law enforcement agencies have opened a case for fraud and impersonation, stating that misusing a civil service title is a punishable offence. The MP has not yet commented publicly, while opposition leaders demanded a swift inquiry.
