Mizoram BJP president K Beichhua told reporters that the Ayushman Bharat programme has reshaped the nation’s health landscape, calling it a "transformative" initiative. His comments were made during a press briefing in the state, where he highlighted the scheme’s role in expanding access to affordable medical care.
Ayushman Bharat, launched by the central government in 2018, provides cash‑less secondary and tertiary treatment to economically vulnerable families through a network of empanelled hospitals. The scheme aims to cover over 100 million poor households, offering a health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year.
In Mizoram, the scheme has enrolled a significant share of eligible families, allowing patients to receive treatment without out‑of‑pocket expenses. Local health officials have reported an increase in hospital admissions for serious conditions, attributing the rise to the financial safety net provided by Ayushman Bharat.
Beichhua urged the state administration to continue collaborating with the central government to strengthen the scheme’s outreach, especially in remote districts where healthcare infrastructure remains limited.
