A tigress that vanished for six months in Madhya Pradesh's Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve has been located with all four cubs alive, according to forest officials.
The forest department of Madhya Pradesh confirmed that the tigress, missing since January, was spotted on October 10 at the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve along with her four cubs. Trail cameras installed in the area captured the entire family moving normally, indicating good health. Officials said the radio collar attached to the tigress had stopped transmitting, which had raised concerns about her whereabouts.
After a six‑month search, forest officials conducted a ground verification and found the animal group near a waterhole within the sanctuary. The team verified the identity of the cubs through visual checks and confirmed that none showed signs of injury or illness.
The successful sighting has been welcomed as a relief for wildlife managers who feared the loss could affect the reserve's breeding program. The department plans to replace the faulty collar and continue regular monitoring to ensure the family's safety.
The incident underscores the challenges of tracking big cats in dense forest terrain and highlights the importance of camera traps and on‑ground patrols in wildlife conservation.
