The state government of Meghalaya and the United Nations World Food Programme have signed an agreement aimed at enhancing food security across the region.
In a recent development, the Meghalaya state administration formalised a partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The agreement, described as a key step in the state's zero‑hunger drive, focuses on improving the availability and accessibility of nutritious food for vulnerable communities.
Under the pact, WFP will collaborate with local authorities to strengthen supply‑chain management, expand community‑based nutrition programmes, and provide technical assistance for better storage and distribution of food grains. The joint effort also aims to build capacity among state officials to monitor food‑security indicators more effectively.
The partnership aligns with India's broader commitment to the Sustainable Development Goal of eradicating hunger by 2030. Officials anticipate that the coordinated actions will reduce seasonal food shortages and bolster resilience against climate‑related disruptions in the northeastern region.
