The Meghalaya government has renewed its collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme to continue the public distribution system and Zero Hunger programme for another term.

The Meghalaya state administration announced that its partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on the Public Distribution System (PDS) and the Zero Hunger mission has been extended for an additional period. The decision was taken to sustain the gains made in food security and to address lingering gaps in the distribution network.

Under the renewed agreement, the two parties will continue to work together to streamline grain allocation, improve supply‑chain monitoring and target vulnerable households more effectively. Officials highlighted that the collaboration has already helped reduce leakages and improve the reliability of food supplies in remote districts.

WFP will maintain its technical support role, providing data‑driven tools, capacity‑building workshops for PDS staff and periodic assessments of nutrition outcomes. The agency’s involvement is aimed at strengthening the state’s ability to meet the national Zero Hunger target while ensuring that subsidised food reaches those who need it most.

The extension reflects Meghalaya’s commitment to a long‑term, evidence‑based approach to food security, aligning with broader national objectives to eradicate hunger and malnutrition across India.
