In a statement released by the CM’s office, Marak was described as a “cultural guardian” whose works had shaped modern Garo literature. He was quoted as saying that the community would miss his voice and that his legacy would continue to inspire future writers.
Llewellyn R. Marak, born in the Garo Hills, had authored numerous novels, short stories, and essays that explored Garo traditions and contemporary issues. His writings were widely celebrated across Northeast India and were included in academic syllabi.
