The Meghalaya state cabinet has given its nod to a draft ordinance aimed at strengthening micro, small and medium enterprises, while also finalising the official holiday list for 2027.
In a cabinet meeting convened in Shillong, the Meghalaya government approved a draft ordinance intended to streamline regulations and provide greater support to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the state. The proposal, tabled by the state’s Industries Department, seeks to create a dedicated legal framework that can facilitate easier access to credit, simplify compliance procedures and promote entrepreneurship among local businesses.
The ordinance also outlines incentives such as tax rebates and skill‑development programmes designed to boost the competitiveness of Meghalaya’s MSME sector. Officials said the draft will be presented to the state legislature for formal passage within the next few weeks.
Alongside the MSME ordinance, the cabinet cleared the official list of public holidays for the year 2027, confirming dates for national, religious and regional observances. The holiday calendar will be published by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms before the start of the fiscal year.
State officials indicated that both decisions reflect the government’s focus on fostering a business‑friendly environment while ensuring orderly public administration for the coming years.
