Meghalaya, Assam chief ministers vow joint effort to restore peace after Shillong violence

The chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam said they will cooperate to bring normalcy back to Shillong following recent violence.
Recent unrest in Shillong left several neighborhoods under curfew and disrupted daily life across the capital of Meghalaya. Law enforcement agencies reported clashes that resulted in property damage and temporary shutdown of markets and schools.
In response, the chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam convened a joint meeting to discuss coordinated actions. Both leaders pledged to share intelligence, deploy additional security personnel, and facilitate swift restoration of essential services.
The officials emphasized that restoring normalcy is a priority and urged citizens to cooperate with authorities. They also announced plans for a joint monitoring committee to oversee the implementation of peace‑keeping measures and to address any spill‑over effects across the state border.
