Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said he and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have agreed to cooperate in restoring peace in Shillong following recent unrest.

Shillong witnessed a spate of violent incidents earlier this week, prompting concerns from both state governments. In the aftermath, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma held a telephone conversation with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Both leaders emphasized the need for swift, coordinated measures to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation.

During the discussion, the two chief ministers agreed to share intelligence, deploy additional security personnel, and coordinate law‑enforcement actions across the border areas. They also pledged to engage community leaders to address underlying tensions that may have fueled the unrest.

The joint approach aims to reassure residents and businesses in Shillong that the situation is being managed at the highest political level. Both governments have indicated that regular updates will be provided as the stabilization efforts progress.
