The Municipal Corporation of Delhi carried out demolition at 40 sites, sealed eight properties and placed 14 buildings under action to curb unsafe constructions after the Satya Niketan tragedy.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched a large‑scale demolition drive on Monday, targeting 40 locations across the capital. The operation was part of a broader crackdown on hazardous structures and illegal constructions that have plagued the city for years.

In addition to the demolitions, MCD officials sealed eight properties suspected of violating building codes and placed 14 more buildings under legal action pending further investigation. Teams equipped with heavy machinery worked throughout the day to bring down unsafe walls and unauthorized extensions.

The sweep follows the tragic collapse at the Satya Niketan residential complex, which raised serious concerns about the structural integrity of many older buildings. MCD spokesperson Arvind Kumar said the agency is intensifying enforcement to prevent any repeat of such incidents and to protect public safety.

Authorities have warned that similar raids will continue until compliance improves, urging owners of illegal structures to regularise their premises or face demolition.
