# Massive Protest Demanding Re-inclusion of Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats in Devadurga Taluk

**Thousands of villagers march to Jalahalli Nadakacheri; anger against officials for failing to act despite inspection orders; warning of a boycott of all upcoming elections**

**Jalahalli, October 12:** Thousands of villagers from the jurisdictions of Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats staged a massive protest in front of Jalahalli Nadakacheri on Monday, demanding that both gram panchayats be re-included in Devadurga Taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.

Following the formation of Arakera Taluk, Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats were brought under Arakera Taluk. The protesters alleged that this change had caused considerable inconvenience to local residents in accessing education, healthcare, transportation, trade and government services.

### Villagers March from Various Villages

Residents of Ganadhal, Kakkaladoddi, Somanamaradi, Bogiramanagund, Sampatrayanadoddi, Myakaldoddi, Kamaladinni and other villages marched along different routes and gathered at Jalahalli Nadakacheri.

Thousands of villagers, including women, participated in the protest and urged the government to fulfil their long-pending demand.

### Jalahalli Has Essential Facilities

Addressing the protest, advocate Basavaraj Ganadhal said, “Jalahalli town has essential facilities, including a Community Health Centre, Nadakacheri, police station, veterinary hospital, agricultural centre, post office, 33 kV electricity substation and banks. State Highway No. 61 passes through Jalahalli, providing better transportation connectivity. The town also offers convenient access to Raichur, the district headquarters, and other towns. Therefore, considering geographical and administrative convenience, our villages should be re-included in Devadurga Taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.”

Sabanna Kammaladinni said, “Jalahalli is more convenient for the people of our villages in terms of education, healthcare, transportation and trade. Since our villages were brought under Arakera Taluk, residents have been facing difficulties in accessing administrative services. The authorities should visit the concerned villages, collect public opinion and take an appropriate decision based on scientific assessment and geographical considerations.”

The villagers also urged the government to reconsider the administrative boundaries of the villages by examining Section 4(2)(a) of the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993, and the relevant provisions of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964.

### Protesters Allege Inaction Despite Inspection Orders

The protesters alleged that although the District Commissioner's office had issued orders on October 18, 2025, directing the Tahsildars of Devadurga and Arakera to conduct an inspection, no appropriate action had been taken so far.

The protesters expressed their anger against officials from the offices of the Tahsildars of both taluks and raised slogans demanding immediate action.

After officials who arrived at the spot assured the protesters that the issue would be taken seriously and necessary steps would be initiated at the earliest, the villagers submitted a memorandum and concluded the protest.

### Warning to Boycott Upcoming Elections

Shivanagouda Desai warned that if Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats were not re-included in Devadurga Taluk, the villagers would boycott the upcoming Gram Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat elections.

The protest was addressed by leaders including Buddanagouda Jagatgal, advocate Basanagouda Desai, Siddanagouda Mudalagunda, Narasanna Nayak, advocate Vasanth Kumar, Hanumantha Kakargal, Shivaraj Nayak, Giriyappa Poojari, Mounesh Ganadhal and Shivappa Palakanamaradi.
