Manipur authorities have retrieved 85% of weapons looted from police and seized more than 4,000 additional arms, officials said.

Manipur police announced that they have recovered 85 percent of the firearms and ammunition that were looted from police depots during recent unrest. The recovery operation, carried out by state law‑enforcement agencies, also resulted in the seizure of over 4,000 additional weapons that were found in various locations across the state.

According to the official statement, the recovered arms include rifles, pistols and other small arms that had been reported missing after the incidents of looting. The additional cache of more than 4,000 weapons is said to have been confiscated during coordinated raids and checks by police teams.

The authorities emphasized that the successful retrieval and seizure demonstrate a focused effort to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in the region. They added that the recovered weapons will be returned to police inventories after forensic verification.

No injuries or casualties were reported in connection with the recovery operation. The police have not disclosed further details about the locations where the additional weapons were seized.

The development comes as part of ongoing security measures aimed at stabilising the law‑and‑order situation in Manipur.
