A resident of Madhya Pradesh died when a piece of gutka he spat from his balcony landed on a live high‑tension wire, causing fatal electrocution.

Police officials said a man from Madhya Pradesh suffered a fatal electric shock after a portion of gutka he spat from his balcony fell onto an overhead high‑tension power line. The incident was reported by neighbours who heard a loud crack and saw the victim collapse on the balcony.

Investigators confirmed that the gutka piece made contact with the live conductor, which carries voltage high enough to cause immediate cardiac arrest upon contact. Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to revive the victim.

The local electricity department has cordoned off the area and is conducting safety checks on the affected line. Authorities have urged residents to avoid discarding any objects from balconies onto power lines, citing the risk of accidental electrocution.

Health officials also reminded the public that gutka, a chewable tobacco product, poses serious health hazards beyond its addictive properties, and its improper disposal can lead to unforeseen accidents such as this.
