Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration has tightened its disposal guidelines after seizing Rs 5 crore worth of expired food stocks.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced new, stricter disposal guidelines following the seizure of expired food items worth approximately Rs 5 crore.
The seized stock, which had been found in several distribution centers, prompted the FDA to review its existing disposal procedures.
Under the revised rules, expired food products will no longer be allowed to re-enter the supply chain. The agency will enforce mandatory destruction or safe disposal of such items.
The FDA also stated that it will increase monitoring of food manufacturers and distributors to ensure compliance with the updated regulations.
Industry observers say the move aims to protect consumers from potentially harmful products and restore confidence in the state’s food safety standards.
