Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration has halted the licences of 21 Mumbai eateries, including Barista and Sandy Da Dhaba, after finding serious hygiene breaches during recent inspections.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out a series of surprise inspections across Mumbai this week. Inspectors examined more than two dozen food outlets and identified serious lapses in hygiene standards at 21 establishments.
Among the affected businesses are well‑known chains Barista and Sandy Da Dhaba. The FDA cited inadequate food storage, lack of proper sanitation facilities, and failure to maintain clean cooking areas as reasons for the violations.
All 21 eateries have been ordered to suspend operations until they obtain clearance after corrective measures are verified. The department has warned that non‑compliance could lead to permanent revocation of licences.
