The state government of Madhya Pradesh disabled more than thirty official websites after receiving credible intelligence about an imminent cyberattack.
Madhya Pradesh’s Information Technology Department announced on Tuesday that over thirty state-run websites were taken offline following a credible threat of a coordinated cyberattack. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect sensitive data and ensure continuity of essential public services.
According to officials, the warning came from a national cyber‑threat intelligence agency that flagged suspicious activity targeting the state’s digital infrastructure. The affected portals included departmental sites for health, education, and public utilities, all of which were temporarily redirected to a maintenance page.
State IT Secretary Anil Sharma said the move was aimed at preventing any potential breach and that security teams are conducting a thorough vulnerability assessment. "We are working closely with central cyber agencies to neutralise the threat and will restore services once we are confident of their safety," he added.
Cybersecurity experts note that Indian states have increasingly become targets of sophisticated attacks, prompting many administrations to adopt similar shutdowns as a defensive tactic. The department has urged citizens to use official mobile apps and helplines for urgent queries until the websites are reinstated.
