The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered that only 30% of NEET PG 2026 seats be allocated to in‑service doctors, deeming the previous higher quota unfair.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court issued a directive limiting the share of postgraduate medical seats allotted to doctors currently serving in government hospitals to 30% for the NEET PG 2026 admission cycle. The bench ruled that the earlier practice of allocating a larger proportion to in‑service candidates disadvantaged other aspirants and violated principles of equal opportunity.
The court's order applies to all medical colleges within the state that participate in the NEET PG counselling process. It directs the state medical education authority to revise the seat matrix accordingly and to ensure that the revised quota is implemented before the final counselling round.
Stakeholders, including the state health department and medical college administrators, have been asked to submit compliance reports within a stipulated timeframe. The decision is expected to reshape the competitive landscape for postgraduate medical seats in Madhya Pradesh.
Legal experts note that the ruling aligns with earlier judgments in other states that sought to balance the interests of serving doctors with those of fresh graduates seeking specialization.
The NEET PG 2026 exam, conducted nationwide, will proceed as scheduled, with the revised quota now forming part of the official seat allocation framework.
