Congress state president Jitu Patwari has sent a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah demanding a full probe and accountability for the more than 20 deaths caused by toxic liquor in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.

More than 20 people died in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh after consuming illicit liquor that was later found to be contaminated with toxic substances. The tragedy has sparked public outcry and intensified scrutiny of the state's excise and law‑enforcement mechanisms.

In response, Congress state president Jitu Patwari drafted a formal letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Patwari asked the central government to ensure that every level of the police hierarchy – from the station house officer to the superintendent of police – be held responsible for any lapses that allowed the spurious liquor to reach consumers. He also called for a comprehensive probe of the entire supply chain and for decisive action against officials in the state excise department.

Patwari’s appeal comes as the Madhya Pradesh government faces pressure to demonstrate swift corrective measures. While state officials have pledged an investigation, the Congress leader’s demand for central oversight underscores the political dimension of the incident and the urgency of restoring public confidence in regulatory enforcement.
