Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a goal for the state police to become drug‑free by 2029 and unveiled a Rs 12 crore plan to modernise the police academy.
Bhopal – The Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, set an ambitious target for the state police to be completely drug‑free by 2029. The declaration was made during a press conference at the state secretariat, where the CM highlighted the rising concerns over substance abuse within law‑enforcement ranks.
To achieve the goal, the administration approved a Rs 12 crore investment to upgrade the Madhya Pradesh Police Academy. The funds will be used to introduce modern training modules, establish a dedicated anti‑drug unit, and improve medical screening facilities for recruits and serving officers.
Officials said the upgrade will also incorporate advanced simulation tools and counseling services aimed at early detection of drug use. The initiative aligns with the central government's broader anti‑drug strategy and is expected to set a benchmark for other states.
The CM urged police personnel to embrace the new standards and assured that regular audits will monitor progress toward the 2029 deadline.
