Lalengmawia has taken the oath of office as the Chief Information Commissioner of Mizoram, marking the latest appointment in the state's information governance hierarchy.

Mizoram's newly appointed Chief Information Commissioner, Lalengmawia, took the official oath of office on Thursday, formalising his entry into the state's information oversight body. The swearing‑in ceremony was conducted at the state secretariat in Aizawl, with senior officials and members of the Information Commission present.

The appointment, announced by the Mizoram government earlier this week, positions Lalengmawia at the helm of the state's Right to Information (RTI) framework, responsible for ensuring transparency and accountability in public administration. He succeeds the previous commissioner, whose term concluded last month.

In his inaugural address, Lalengmawia emphasized the importance of timely disclosure of information and pledged to strengthen the commission's capacity to handle RTI appeals efficiently. He also highlighted plans to conduct outreach programs for citizens to better understand their right to information.

The state government has tasked the commission with expediting pending RTI cases and improving the overall responsiveness of public offices. Observers note that effective leadership at the CIC can significantly impact the transparency of governance in Mizoram.

The oath-taking marks a key step in reinforcing the state's commitment to open governance, with expectations that the new commissioner will drive reforms aligned with national RTI standards.
