A group of medical teachers in Kerala has voiced strong opposition to the government's plan to transfer faculty positions to a newly established medical college.
Kerala's medical faculty association announced on Monday that it will oppose the state government's decision to redeploy existing teaching posts to a newly sanctioned medical college. The teachers argue that the move could dilute academic standards and disrupt ongoing programmes at existing institutions.
The association cited concerns over inadequate infrastructure at the new college and the potential loss of experienced staff from established hospitals. Members fear that hurried transfers may compromise both patient care and student training.
State officials, however, maintain that the redeployment is essential to address the shortage of qualified teachers in the new institution and to ensure its rapid operationalisation. Discussions between the government and the teachers' body are slated to continue in the coming weeks.
