Kerala launches AI-powered dengue early warning system

Kerala's health department has deployed an artificial‑intelligence platform to forecast dengue outbreaks and issue alerts ahead of spikes.
The state health ministry announced the rollout of an artificial‑intelligence based early warning system aimed at predicting dengue trends across Kerala. The platform integrates real‑time data from hospitals, mosquito surveillance, weather patterns and historical case records to generate risk maps for the coming weeks.
Using machine‑learning algorithms, the system analyses the incoming data to identify hotspots where dengue transmission is likely to rise. Alerts are then sent to district health officials and local municipalities, enabling them to mobilise vector‑control measures such as fogging, larviciding and community awareness drives before cases surge.
Health officials said the AI tool will complement existing surveillance by shortening the detection lag that traditionally follows a rise in cases. Early intervention, they expect, will reduce the number of severe infections and ease the burden on hospitals during peak seasons.
The pilot, initially launched in a few high‑risk districts, will be expanded statewide over the next few months, with regular performance reviews to fine‑tune the predictive models.
