From 15 October, hotels and restaurants across Kerala will no longer accept UPI transactions exceeding ₹2,000, as reported by Livemint.
According to a report by Livemint, a new payment guideline will come into force on 15 October for the hospitality sector in Kerala. The rule stipulates that any Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transaction above ₹2,000 will be declined at hotel and restaurant points of sale.
The restriction applies uniformly to all establishments classified as hotels or restaurants throughout the state. Business owners are expected to update their payment terminals and inform customers about the ceiling on digital payments.
Customers who wish to pay larger amounts will need to split the transaction into multiple UPI payments or resort to alternative methods such as cash, credit or debit cards, or other digital wallets, according to the information available.
