The Karnataka government announced the rollout of offline Right to Information (RTI) facilities at its Sakala and Gram One service centres across the state.

Bengaluru, Oct 18 (BusinessLine) – The Karnataka administration has launched a new initiative to provide offline Right to Information (RTI) services through its existing Sakala and Gram One citizen‑service centres. The move aims to simplify the process for residents who prefer in‑person assistance, especially in rural and semi‑urban areas where digital access may be limited.

Under the scheme, officials at each Sakala and Gram One centre will receive training to handle RTI applications, guide applicants on required documentation, and facilitate the submission of requests to the appropriate government departments. The service is expected to reduce turnaround times and improve transparency.

State officials said the expansion will be phased, beginning with a pilot in select districts before covering all 30 districts of Karnataka. The government will monitor usage patterns and feedback to refine the offline offering.

The initiative aligns with Karnataka's broader digital‑inclusion agenda, which seeks to blend online platforms with robust ground‑level support for citizens seeking information under the RTI Act.
