State authorities in Karnataka have ordered strict action after reports of fuel pump nozzles being altered and customers receiving less fuel than paid for.

Karnataka's consumer protection department has launched a crackdown after multiple complaints surfaced that fuel pump nozzles at several stations were deliberately deviated, resulting in customers receiving less fuel than the amount displayed on the meter.

The department announced immediate inspections of all fuel outlets in the state, with officials empowered to seize equipment, impose fines and suspend licences of outlets found violating the standards. A special task force has been formed to audit fuel dispensing records and verify the accuracy of metering devices.

Consumer rights groups welcomed the move, urging motorists to report any discrepancies and retain payment receipts. The state government has also directed the petroleum regulatory authority to monitor fuel quality and ensure compliance with national standards.

Karnataka has previously taken strong measures against fuel adulteration, and officials said the current action aims to restore public confidence in the fuel supply chain and deter future malpractice.
