The Jammu and Kashmir administration has set up an Apprenticeship Council tasked with monitoring the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to boost skill development and job creation in the region.

The state government of Jammu and Kashmir announced the creation of an Apprenticeship Council to supervise the rollout of the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). The council will comprise officials from the labour department, industry representatives and training institutions, and will meet regularly to review progress.

NAPS, a central government initiative, aims to expand apprenticeship opportunities across sectors, linking vocational training with on‑the‑job experience. By establishing a dedicated monitoring body, the J&K administration seeks to ensure that apprenticeship placements meet quality standards and align with the region's skill‑development priorities.

State officials indicated that the council will track enrollment figures, assess employer participation, and address bottlenecks in training delivery. The move is expected to streamline apprenticeship approvals, improve compliance with scheme guidelines, and ultimately generate more skilled jobs for youth in Jammu and Kashmir.

The council’s mandate also includes coordinating with central agencies to channel funding and technical support, thereby strengthening the overall impact of NAPS in the state.
