J&K Forest Department Sets 55-Year Age Ceiling for Forester and Guard Training

The Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department has announced that candidates must be 55 years or younger to enroll in its forester and guard training programmes.

The Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department issued a circular this week establishing an upper age limit of 55 years for individuals seeking training as foresters or forest guards. The directive applies to all upcoming batches of the department's technical and field‑level courses, which are essential for recruitment into the state’s forest service.

According to the department, the age restriction is intended to ensure that trainees possess the physical stamina required for demanding field duties, including patrols, fire control and wildlife management. Candidates who exceed the limit will no longer be eligible for the department‑run training modules, though they may still apply for other non‑technical positions.

The policy aligns with broader efforts by the state government to modernise forest administration and streamline recruitment. Officials indicated that the age ceiling will be uniformly enforced across all forest ranges in Jammu and Kashmir, and that the updated criteria will be reflected in future recruitment advertisements.

Stakeholders, including existing forest personnel and aspirants, have been advised to review the new eligibility norms before submitting applications for the next training cycle, scheduled to commence later this year.
