The Jharkhand government reports that its reading initiative now operates in 34,000 government schools across the state.
The Jharkhand government has announced that its reading campaign now spans 34,000 government schools, marking a major rollout since the program’s inception.
The initiative, launched by the State Education Department in collaboration with non‑governmental organisations, seeks to boost literacy and foster a habit of reading among primary‑level students. It supplies books, sets up reading corners and offers teacher‑training modules to support the effort.
Officials highlighted that the expansion includes remote and tribal districts, with dedicated monitoring mechanisms to track progress. The campaign aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy and the broader goal of improving educational outcomes in the state.
The department plans quarterly reviews of the programme’s impact and has earmarked additional funding to sustain and possibly extend the initiative further.
