The Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister has accused the BJP of refusing to support a vote for restoring the state's former status, citing various pretexts.
The Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir has publicly accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of unwillingness to back a vote that would restore the state's former status. In a statement released earlier today, the CM alleged that the BJP is using a range of pretexts to stall the process.
The issue of statehood restoration has been a contentious topic since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Many political leaders and civil society groups have called for a democratic vote to determine whether Jammu & Kashmir should regain its special status.
According to the CM, the BJP’s opposition is not based on policy differences but on political calculations. The party has repeatedly declined to participate in discussions that could lead to a vote on the matter.
The CM warned that continued obstruction could further polarize the region and delay the resolution of a long‑standing constitutional question. He called on the central government to engage constructively with all stakeholders to move the debate forward.
