Israeli Netting Provides Indian Apple Growers Protection Against Hail

Hailstorms have long posed a serious threat to apple production in India, often stripping fruit of its market value and causing costly losses for growers. In response, manufacturers in Israel have introduced specialized netting designed to shield orchard canopies from the impact of hail.
The nets are woven from high‑strength polymer fibers that can withstand the kinetic force of hail while allowing sunlight, air, and rain to reach the trees. By creating a physical barrier, the material reduces fruit bruising and breakage without interfering with normal orchard operations.
Early adopters among Indian apple growers report that the nets are easy to install over existing trellises and have already shown promise in limiting hail‑related damage during the recent season. If the trend continues, the technology could become a standard protective measure across major apple‑growing regions.
