India’s inaugural supercomputer, installed at an IIT campus, has unexpectedly shut down, disrupting ongoing data analysis and computational projects.

India’s first supercomputer, a landmark installation at an Indian Institute of Technology, has ceased operations after a sudden shutdown. The outage has halted several research projects that rely on high‑performance computing for data analysis and simulation.

The supercomputer, which was commissioned as part of India’s push to enhance domestic computational capabilities, was the country’s first of its kind. Its unexpected failure has left scientists and engineers scrambling to find alternative resources.

Officials at the IIT have not yet disclosed the cause of the shutdown, but they have assured that efforts are underway to restore the system. In the meantime, researchers are exploring cloud‑based solutions and collaborating with other institutions to mitigate the impact on their work.
