India has announced that the first flight of its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is slated for September 2028, with private partner bidding scheduled to close in October.
India has formally set a target of September 2028 for the maiden flight of its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a key milestone in the country’s indigenous fighter aircraft programme.
The AMCA, developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration with the Indian Air Force, is expected to feature stealth capabilities, advanced avionics and a high thrust-to-weight ratio.
In line with the programme’s procurement strategy, the government has opened a bidding process for a private partner to contribute to the aircraft’s development. The bidding window will close in October, after which the selected partner will join the project.
The decision underscores India’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in advanced combat aircraft and is expected to accelerate the timeline for operational deployment of the AMCA fleet.
