A group of India Post officials in Madhya Pradesh were found guilty of siphoning ₹36.4 lakh from the post office’s National Savings Certificate and term deposit accounts.

On a recent court hearing in Madhya Pradesh, several India Post employees were convicted for a fraud that involved siphoning ₹36.4 lakh from the post office’s National Savings Certificate (NSC) and term deposit accounts. The accused were alleged to have misappropriated funds by manipulating account records and authorizing unauthorized withdrawals.

The fraud was uncovered during an internal audit that flagged irregularities in the NSC and term deposit ledger. Investigators traced the missing amount to false entries and unauthorized transactions carried out by the accused staff.

The convicted officials face imprisonment and fines under the Indian Penal Code. The case highlights the need for stricter oversight of savings schemes managed by the postal department.

India Post has announced steps to strengthen internal controls, including enhanced monitoring of savings accounts and regular audits by independent agencies.

The incident has prompted the Ministry of Communications to review the security protocols for post office savings schemes nationwide.
