A senior minister announced that the India-New Zealand free trade pact will be operational within the next thirty days, marking a swift rollout of the bilateral trade framework.
New Delhi – The government confirmed that the free trade agreement (FTA) negotiated with New Zealand is set to come into force within a month, according to a statement by a senior minister. The announcement underscores the rapid implementation schedule agreed by both sides after months of negotiations.
The FTA is expected to eliminate tariffs on a wide range of goods, enhance market access for services, and create new opportunities for Indian exporters in sectors such as dairy, horticulture, and information technology. New Zealand officials have highlighted similar benefits for their agricultural and manufacturing exports to India.
Trade analysts note that the agreement could boost bilateral trade volumes, which have hovered around US$5 billion annually, by fostering deeper supply‑chain integration and encouraging investment flows. The minister added that the necessary legal formalities will be completed shortly, paving the way for the pact’s activation before the end of the quarter.
Implementation will be overseen by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in coordination with New Zealand’s trade ministry, ensuring compliance with the agreed timelines and regulatory standards.
