India Maitri Koot protests in Beed demanding CEC resignation and cancellation of voter list revision
India Maitri Koot held a rally in Beed, Maharashtra, calling for the scrapping of the Special Integrated Revision of voter lists, the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Jnanesh Kumar and reforms to the CEC appointment process.
On a day of organized protest at Ambedkar Circle in Beed, Maharashtra, India Maitri Koot demanded the cancellation of the Special Integrated Revision (SIR) of voter lists and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Jnanesh Kumar. The rally was led by district Congress president Abdul Mannan Seth, who described the SIR process as illegal, anti‑democratic and lacking transparency.
The coalition presented four specific demands: (1) complete withdrawal of the SIR process; (2) resignation of CEC Jnanesh Kumar; (3) amendment of the Chief Election Commissioner appointment act to restore the earlier selection committee of the Prime Minister, opposition leader and Chief Justice, removing the Home Minister; and (4) revocation of the legal immunity currently granted to the CEC.
Seth highlighted recent assembly election setbacks for the BJP in Waransi, Patna and Nagpur as evidence of a shifting public mood. Prominent India Maitri Koot leaders such as Ka. Babu Honna, Vithaldas Page, Ka. Santosh Chitaguppa, Ka. Reshma Kunde and Omprakash Rote, along with numerous former legislators and activists, addressed the crowd.
The coalition announced further demonstrations in all 12 blocks of Beed district over the next five days, followed by gram panchayat‑level actions within a week, stating the movement will continue until all four demands are met. Organisers framed the campaign as a defence of democratic values, the constitution and the right to vote, positioning it against the BJP‑RSS government.
