India and Fiji deepen defence and maritime cooperation, eye sector tie‑up

India and Fiji have agreed to boost defence and maritime collaboration while exploring joint ventures in the eye‑care industry.
New Delhi and Suva held a bilateral dialogue that focused on expanding security and economic links between the two nations. Both sides highlighted the strategic importance of a stronger defence partnership in the Pacific region.
During the talks, officials outlined plans to increase joint naval exercises and improve maritime surveillance to safeguard shipping lanes and deter illegal activities. The dialogue also covered the exchange of training and technology to enhance the capabilities of each country's maritime forces.
In addition to security matters, the two countries expressed a shared interest in developing the eye‑care sector. They agreed to explore collaborative projects, including the sharing of medical expertise and the potential establishment of joint manufacturing facilities for ophthalmic equipment.
The partnership is expected to be formalised through memoranda of understanding in the coming weeks, paving the way for deeper engagement across defence, maritime and health‑related industries.
